Taking a Sunday refresher from the many posts on the UK and France, I am back on so-called home ground and went to the first day of the Daphne Guinness show at the FIT (and another, in the same building).
Once again, photos are not allowed, but as usual, I snuck one in for good measure. Those with an interest in the more fantastical elements of contemporary fashion will not be disappointed, but as for myself, I was more interested in the more traditional appearing black and white of the faded days of old couture (as seen through a modern, not contemporary, eye). The flashy exhibition display, I must add, was really well thought out, and played up the pieces in a spectacular fashion whether one was interested in the works or not.
There was also another exhibition in the FIT galleries, namely "Sporting Life" which was a small collection of clothes and accessories related to the world of sport as it has evolved or totally diverted from its original intention in the 1800s. For my money, there was a blue Chanel number from the 1920s which was hands down the trophy winner.
